The Psalms received by the Christian tradition are the lyre that sings to Christ. We find here the human and religious splendor expressed in poetry or songs. The Second Vatican Council sees in psalm praise "the voice of the wife (the Church) speaking to her husband." The psalter is the poetic and prayerful breath of at least a millennium of Israel's literary history.
